The size of your web pages whilst sitting on your PC is not the same as when it displays on the web. This is because HTML files are text files and don't include images, code that is 'included' from other sources, flash files or anything else that gets displayed. Page size is therefore the sum of file sizes for all the parts that make up a webpage.

This is then complicated by the fact that images are loaded into your browser's cache so they do not have to be reloaded each time you view a page on that site. It reduces the demand on bandwidth.

How can you work out your page size then? Firstly, if you are using a web designer, ask them! The Internet Method - upload your webpages to free-hosted webspace (the best bet being your Internet Service Provider - ISP, as they don't show ads like Yahoo or MSN etc...which may be included in your page size calculation), copying the web address from your browser's address bar, then going to our pagesize calculator. The Best Guess Method - look at the size of your web page and any images, scripts, stylesheets or other components that it uses on your hard disk, and add the sizes together. Phew!
