Small Business Web Hosting
For your website to display on the Internet, there are three vital components:
- A domain name - this is your web address, also known as a URL.
- A web hosting account - this is where your web pages are stored.
- Web pages - these are the pages that you see in your web browser
The hosting and domain name need to be linked together and you can either buy this as a package, or buy the two separately and then link them. Instructions for doing this for two popular domain name sellers can be found under 'DNS instructions'.
On each page, you'll find information to help guide you through the process - things you might not have already thought of, such as how to actually choose your domain name, or how to pick a web designer. And if you have any questions, just ask!
And what about the lingo?
If you are unused to the whole 'Internet thing' all the jargon can be quite offputting. Not sure of what something means? Perhaps you'll find it in the glossary.
And bandwidth..?
Many hosting package quote numbers at you. One of them is bandwidth, but until you've got a website, how will you know how much you'll need? After all, there's no point in paying for more than that. See our bandwidth calculator and play around with some numbers..!
And whilst you're at it, why not see how big some of your pages are? The smaller the page size, the quicker it loads, and the happier your visitors are.
